About the Village of Ogunquit Maine, Coast Atlantic Ocean town lodging vacation Destination

The village of Ogunquit in Southern Maine has evolved from a small fishing hamlet to a resort in the 1880’s when the bridge was built across the Ogunquit River and visitors began to flock to its magnificent 3-1/2 mile white sandy beach. This protected treasure of pristine uncluttered beach is one of only two municipally owned beaches in the State of Maine. In addition, Ogunquit gained fame as an artists’ colony, and today maintains a reputation as an artistic community with many galleries, private studios and the acclaimed Ogunguit Playhouse.

Marginal Way Footpath in Ogunquit Maine, Coastal Vacation Ideas, PlanningFrom a unique draw-footbridge, visitors enter Perkins Cove, one of the most picturesque harbors on the Maine coast. Lobstermen, fisherman and boating enthusiasts enjoy its sheltered harbor, while visitors flock to the art galleries, specialty shops and excellent waterfront restaurants.

The Marginal Way, a paved footpath that runs for 1-1/4 miles along the rocky coastline, starts one block from the Inn, and ends at the pristine Ogunquit Beach. Dotting the path along the way are thirty benches for rest and reflection. Open year-round, visitors are drawn by its gentle bends and inclines and the beautiful panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Colorful trolleys run every 20 minutes in season between the village, Perkins Cove and the beach. Ogunquit is also home to two beautiful golf courses. Local events can be found on our event calender.

Visit Thompson Green Plaza for shopping and dining, located across the street from the inn
