Timeless hospitality awaits you.
Gluten Free Diets, Allergies or Other Restrictions
Please take note of this very important issue! For those who are bound to a gluten free diet, allergies or other restrictions, do not despair! Just let us know in advance when you reserve, and we will be happy to provide you with homemade substitutions designed around your own dietary needs for breakfast and afternoon tea.
Breakfast
Breakfast is a social event when the varied guests gather in the morning in the sunlit dining areas. Start your day with a delicious multi course breakfast featuring sweet and savory entrees that vary daily. All breads, muffins, cookies and jams are prepared on site. Occasionally you might experience our home-made orange honey butter as well. We are currently experimenting with an English Muffin recipe that will undoubtedly raise our Eggs Benedict to amazing heights. Peach Muffins are an in-house favorite and the Finnish Ribbon Cookies are not to be missed.

During the Day and Afternoon Tea
For your enjoyment, we serve daily, quality teas and tisanes from a wonderful company known as Serendipitea. Our Ruby Sipper and Berry Blueberry tisanes have been an instant hit for a refreshing summer beverage. Cookies, crackers, cheese and fruit are served daily at afternoon tea, a welcome snack to hold you over until your visit to any one of Ogunquit’s fine restaurants, and there are many.
The Hartwell House staff is always available and happy to provide you with recommendations for dinner and entertainment, directions or suggestions, and, even more important, just an opportunity to chat. Once again, Relax, Refresh and Renew! We’re here, waiting for you to visit us at the Hartwell House Inn.

I wanted to send you a quick note concerning our pleasant experience at the inn recently. Our late arrival was received extremely well, and without complication. To me, that says a lot about your desire to focus on your guests. It was obvious to us that there is a great deal of time and care that goes into ensuring your guests needs are met, and their stay at Ogunquit and your Inn are pleasant. The room was perfect. From the bedding, the decor, and we even enjoyed the oatmeal soap... there wasn't a detail that was overlooked in our opinion. We found the location to be exactly what we were looking for. Being so close to the Cove, town and the beach - we could not have found a better spot. We sincerely thank you for such a wonderful experience, and we look forward to returning soon.

Good evening. Thank you so much for your professional, pleasant, proper, enjoyable accommodations for Dan & I in the Lady Hamilton Room from July 2-3. We agree that the room was the perfect match to our needs - down to the last detail of the room, it seems a place we would stay for weeks if we could! The privacy was immaculate and we slept quite well after getting a night away from his busy family's home that was hosting many guests.

Thank you very much for a wonderful stay -- and please feel free to make this email accessible to other guests who might be thinking of staying with you.
I decided to book with you because of the reasonable price of the room, and because when I called to ask about rates the woman I spoke with was so friendly that it just gave me a great feeling about the place. I didn't regret it for a second. In fact, my sole regret is that we only stayed two nights! Since I didn't know the place, I spread out our vacation plans and we moved on to another hotel for our last two nights in Maine. But after your place, the hotel couldn't compare.
Whatever changes you make over the next year, please don't change the food!! The home-baked muffins, bread, and English muffins, not to mention the home-made jam, was all absolutely heavenly. Also, afternoon tea is a stroke of genius. Coming in from a day at the beach, a little sun-exhausted, having a couple of small snacks and some ice coffee laid out for us was really appreciated. And the breakfasts were unbelievable -- blows away the standard continental deal at any resort! We loved coming in every evening to the place filled with those baking smells. My boyfriend is a late sleeper, and he appreciated that I could bring him a couple of muffins and coffee even when he missed breakfast (and the day he got up for breakfast he regretted ever sleeping in!)
I also have to give special mention to the woman who saw me coming in from an afternoon at the beach with a paper bag -- having bought a bottle of wine for us to enjoy on the beautiful balcony overlooking the backyard. Without me having to ask, she spied the bag, and immediately offered to get me a corkscrew and two glasses. It's those kinds of little touches, the friendly and attentive service, plus the beauty and quality of the inn, that really made our stay memorable.
Thank you again for a relaxing, totally lovely experience. When we come back to New England -- I'm pushing for next summer -- we'll absolutely make a point of staying with you again, and for a longer stay next time! We miss it already.

Dear Hartwell House staff and owners: We enjoyed staying with you and would no doubt search you out whenever we can stay in Ogunquit again. The James Wilson room was absolutely lovely and sparking clean. Everyone at Hartwell was gracious and welcoming. And the breakfast was delicious and presented by people who seemed to enjoy working there.
